It is our diversity that colours the world

There is a whole lot of mudslinging happening right now. A whole lot of name calling. Blacklisting and hurtful words being thrown about like they are acceptable.
Is it right that if one person speaks her truth – dares to speak his mind that someone comes along and tries to take away that right. Attacking her as a person, trying to drag him down because she dared to speak out. Dared to raise his head above the mainstream?
Is it wrong for each of us to have varying opinions? To look at the world in the way we see it and voice our opinion about what we see and feel. Is it right for people to come along and try to silence us by painting us to be the fool when all we are trying to do is express who we are? Who is the real fool – us or them? Or are any of us fools really?
Are people so insecure that the moment someone steps out of the shadows into the light trying to shine some light on her feelings, some people want to strip her down until she feels so exposed, naked even,  that she runs back to the shadows. Licking her wounds as the attackers rub their hands in glee.
How would we really feel if we all thought the same? All agreed on everything. All tried to go after the same prize. Wouldn't our world be absolutely and totally boring. What if we all looked the same? Spoke the same? Dressed the same? Would we be satisfied then that the world was balanced and we were all equal?
I don’t think it's possible because though we come here the same way, we come here to learn different lessons. To grow in different ways. To add some colour to the world. To add some va va voom to the world. To sprinkle a little of our independence into the world.  Though balance comes from the same weight, that weight must be applied on opposite sides of the scale because if the same weight is placed on one side of the scale,  it tips over. Only when the weight is equally distributed can there be balance.
Telling me that we can’t all sit on the same side of the fence if we want balance. So if what we truly want is equality and balance then we have to let people voice their opinions. We have to let our voices be heard. We have to give each other the ability and freedom to speak truthfully and openly so that eventually we will find the balance needed to achieve the equilibrium we so desperately crave.
Balance does not come from all being on the same side. It comes from distributing our weight evenly on opposite sides of the scale. Leaving room for all of us to be heard not silenced. It is our diversity that colours our world and adds spice to life not our desire for similarity. Namaste.
